Inspector's Puppy training tips

Tips on puppy training

Try to chose a name that does not sound like an obedience command eg: Rover - Over, Neal - Heel or Comet - Come.

The tone of your voice is very important so as not to confuse the puppy.

Use a coaxing tone - to excite the pup into doing something.
Use a happy tone when the pup has done the right thing, a job well done.
Try not to use a harsh tone even if the pup is learning very slowly (some dogs learn quicker than others).
If you are sure the pup knows what you wan tuse a demanding tone.

Remember when you call your dog and it comes to you to praise it, don't scold it.

Getting the puppy to walk on a lead.

This tip even works on older or stubborn dogs.
Ensure that the collar is nice and soft, attach to it a light weight piece of cord about one and a half times the length of the puppy. Attach the collar to the pup and let and let him drag it around, it is a good idea to be outside playing ball with the pup, if the pup tries to chew the rope try to coax his attention away from the rope by playing ball or just running around.

Try this a couple of times during the day for ten minutes at a a time. This should get him use to the rope that eventually will be replaced by a lead.
