Nelshaby Lawrie Park Draft Management Plan
Have your say on the future of Nelshaby Reservoir & Lawrie Park!
Port Pirie Regional Council has worked with the Pirie Districts Development Association to prepare a draft Management Plan for Nelshaby Reservoir and Lawrie Park.
Nelshaby Reservoir & Lawrie Park Management Plan - Draft
Overview of Plan
The Draft Management Plan incorporates three sites – Nelshaby Reservoir, Lawrie Park and the closed former landfill site.
The Plan will:
- Provide advice and strategy for the water issues surrounding the Nelshaby Reservoir
- Assess the layout of Lawrie Park, its existing features and how it could be integrated as a trailhead connection for one of the Gorges Walks
- Preserve and enhance the existing landscape biodiversity
- Identify opportunities to enhance the built environment
The strategy surrounding Nelshaby Reservoir includes investigating better management of the sluice gate to allow water to flow into the reservoir (which in turn will require a dam management plan and examining the integrity of the dam walls).
Future commercial and tourism opportunities will also be considered including the possibility for short term accommodation and walking trails. There is also potential for First Nations involvement.
Next Stages
Following the public consultation, Port Pirie Regional Council will consider and agree upon any amendments required based on feedback received.
Once the plan is adopted, a staged implementation plan will be developed to determine key priorities and timing for future works.
