Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Community Service
- Media Releases
Nominations are now open for the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Community Service.
The Certificate of Merit recognises individuals who are involved in a not-for-profit organisation and have made significant contributions to the community. Nominees must have a history of community involvement or have performed a single action of significance.
“My motivation to reintroduce this award is that the Australia Day Committee may receive several nominations for the Citizen of the Year Award, yet there is only one awarded, this separate award will fill the void of a high calibre person possibly missing a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Certificate of Merit will give Council the vehicle to recognise these people within our community,” said Mayor Leon Stephens.
“I would like to see the Certificates being presented by our Elected Members, through their respective portfolios and community interests, along with myself, to suitably and proudly acknowledge the wonderful efforts being made by local community-spirited people,” said Mayor Stephens.
Certificates will be presented at the New Years Eve Celebrations held at the Port Pirie Foreshore Precinct, or elsewhere in the region, depending on where the nomination is received from.
Nominations close on Friday 29th November 2019. Nomination forms and eligibility criteria can be found at: https://www.pirie.sa.gov.au/what-do-councils-do/online-services-forms/citizen-of-the-year-awards
