Free Native Plants for the Port Pirie Region
Native Plant Giveaway: Sunday 18 October 2026
The Port Pirie Native Plant Giveaway is funded by the Government of South Australia as part of a four-year partnership for greening Port Pirie – one of a range of measures being undertaken by the South Australian government to reduce and prevent exposure to lead in Port Pirie.
The next plant giveaway will be held at Council's Works Depot on Broadstock Road on Sunday 18 October from 10am - 2pm and will include a free Sausage Sizzle for residents.

The Native Plant Giveaway provides:
- Six free native plants per household (randomly selected from a range of hardy, locally adapted species) to help beautify our community, reduce airborne lead dust, increase biodiversity and is also a great opportunity to introduce native flora into your garden.
These native plants are selected for their beauty, drought tolerance and ability to support local wildlife.
The event builds on the success of previous giveaways held in April 2024, May and October 2025 and May 2026 which saw thousands of plants distributed and strong community engagement.
We’re passionate about seeing our community flourish, as well as reducing airborne lead dust, and this initiative is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart vibrant, sustainable gardens across Port Pirie.
