Have Your Say: Proposal to Reduce Speed Limit on Aerodrome Road
Port Pirie Regional Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on Aerodrome Road from 80km/h to 50km/h.
This follows requests from residents living along Aerodrome Road to reduce the speed limit to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and road users alike.
Issues raised by residents include vehicles frequently travelling above the current 80km/h speed limit, reported near misses involving children riding bicycles and concerns about driver behaviour and road safety.
Aerodrome Road services both residential and rural properties and is currently subject to an 80km/h speed limit.
While Council is responsible for maintaining Aerodrome Road, the authority to determine and amend speed limits rests with the State Government’s Department for Infrastructure & Transport (DIT). Therefore, Council will use feedback received through the public consultation to inform a formal submission to DIT.
The consultation will help Council to better understand how residents, property owners, road users and the broader community use Aerodrome Road and the level of community support for a speed limit review.
