Disability Access & Inclusion Plan

Disability Access Inclusion Plan (2020-2024)

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2020-2024 - Easy Read Version

The Port Pirie Regional Council adopted its first Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (2020-2024) on 28 October 2020.

The Disability Inclusion Act, 2018 (SA) requires all councils to produce a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. Our plan aligns with the themes set out in the State Disability Inclusion Plan 2019-2023.

These themes are:

  • Inclusive communities for all
  • Leadership and collaboration
  • Accessible communities
  • Learning and employment

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan has been prepared based on input from the community. The responses contained clear messages about matters that should be addressed. These included: getting to know more about the disability sector, raising community awareness of the challenges faced, reviewing the condition of footpaths, accessible car parks, public toilets and council buildings.

The responses were grouped according to the four pillars.

“We want to ensure that all people in our community are given the opportunity to live their life to the full in our district,” Mayor says.

“We recognise that there potentially many improvements that could be done as it’s essential that facilities and events are accessible, that our programs are inclusive and that we are providing and encouraging equality at every opportunity.”
