Welcome to the Port Pirie Region – your new home!
On behalf of our Elected Members and staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Port Pirie Regional Council area.
Port Pirie Regional Council is situated on the upper reaches of the Spencer Gulf in the Southern Flinders Ranges of South Australia, a spectacular location where the hills meet the sea. We are centrally located just 2.5 hours north of Adelaide and close to many regional centres.
The Council area includes the city of Port Pirie, a historically significant city and busy commercial regional centre, as well as the rural towns of Crystal Brook, Redhill, Koolunga, Wandearah, Mundoora, Napperby and Warnertown
Port Pirie is a community known for its rich multicultural history, most notably the fishermen from Molfetta, Italy, who migrated to build a living and later, brought out their families to settle here. Port Pirie has evolved into a vibrant multicultural community which embraces the heritage and traditions of the many nations whose residents call our city home.
Many famous identities started their lives in Port Pirie – from the world of sport: AFL footballers Mark Bickley, Mark Jamar and Sam Mayes; from the world of music: former BeeGees manager Robert Stigwood and from the stage: actors John Noble, the late Lillian Crombie and Keith Michell, whom our local theatre is named after.
Port Pirie boasts excellent sporting and shopping facilities and of course, our friendly people. Enjoy a relaxed lifestyle where you can travel from home to work, school or sport within 10 minutes!
