Get Ready Port Pirie: Thousands to Descend on the Region for 2027 SA Masters Games
Port Pirie is preparing to welcome thousands of competitors, supporters and visitors when the 2027 South Australian Masters Games takes over the region from 18 to 21 March 2027.
The dates were officially revealed at a launch event held at the Port Pirie Sports Precinct on Monday 29 June, marking the formal start of preparations for one of South Australia’s premier regional sporting events.
The launch brought together key partners, sporting representatives and community members to celebrate the milestone, unveil the official Games logo and begin the countdown to March 2027.
Expected to attract up to 3,000 competitors from across South Australia and beyond, the Games will transform Port Pirie into a hub of sport, community and celebration, delivering significant economic and social benefits while showcasing the region’s sporting facilities, hospitality and community spirit.
Port Pirie Regional Council Mayor Leon Stephens said the announcement marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the region.
“This launch marks the official beginning of our journey to host the 2027 South Australian Masters Games, and we are incredibly excited to share this moment with our community and partners,” Mayor Stephens said.
“Announcing the event dates is an important milestone and allows competitors, sporting clubs and visitors to begin planning for what will be an exciting event that showcases the very best of Port Pirie and our region.”
The launch also celebrated the strong partnership between Council and Sport SA, whose support and expertise will be instrumental in delivering a successful Games experience for competitors, volunteers and spectators.
Sport SA CEO Leah Cassidy, Masters Games Manager Kathryn Lee, community representative Jean Smith and Games major sponsors Navigate Asset Finance and Valour Sport were among those in attendance, along with sponsor Simba Car Hire.
Planning is now underway, with Council working closely with Sport SA, local sporting organisations, volunteers and partners to deliver a vibrant program expected to feature 26 sports and encourage participation from people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Over the coming months, Sport SA will engage with regional sporting clubs as part of the planning process, providing local clubs with an opportunity to contribute ideas, share their expertise and help shape the Games from the outset.
More than a sporting event, the South Australian Masters Games celebrates participation, connection, active lifestyles and positive mental and physical wellbeing. These values align strongly with Port Pirie’s community spirit, and Council is excited to welcome competitors, supporters and visitors for what promises to be an outstanding regional event.
With planning now underway and the dates locked in, Port Pirie is gearing up to deliver a memorable South Australian Masters Games in 2027 — one that celebrates sport, community and the unique hospitality of regional South Australia.
