2027 Council Elections
Residents of the Port Pirie Region are being encouraged to consider running for council as part of the ‘Shape Your World’ campaign launched ahead of the 2027 local government elections.
The campaign, delivered in partnership with the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA) and the Electoral Commission of South Australia, aims to inspire people from all walks of life to step forward and help shape the future of their communities.
Across South Australia’s 68 councils, more than 600 elected members make decisions that affect everyday community life, from local infrastructure and planning to parks, libraries and community services.
Port Pirie Regional Council Chief Executive Officer, Chris Davey said the upcoming elections provide an important opportunity for community members to play an active role in shaping the region's future.
"Local government is the level of government closest to the community, and elected members have a direct influence on decisions that impact residents every day," Mr Davey said.
"The 2027 Council Elections are an opportunity for people from all backgrounds to put their hand up, represent their community and help shape the future direction of the Port Pirie Region. We encourage anyone with a passion for their community to consider becoming a candidate."
South Australia’s next periodic local government elections will take place in April 2027, with candidate nominations opening on 26 January 2027 and closing at 12 noon on 9 February 2027.
Voting in South Australian council elections is conducted by postal ballot, making it easy for residents to participate and have their say in the future of their local community.
The Shape Your World campaign will run throughout the lead-up to the 2027 elections and includes resources for prospective candidates and information sessions to help people understand the role of local government.
