2013 Flinders Ranges & Outback Tourism Award – Visitor Information & Services

2013 Tourism Award

Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre (through the Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Arts Centre) received the award for the top visitor information centre or outlet in the Flinders Ranges & Outback. This award is a tribute to the high standard of customer service and attractions available at the centre, including a shark exhibition, miniature and model railways and the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery. The centre is also proactive in promoting the Southern Flinders Ranges and Flinders Ranges tourism regions.

Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre (through the Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Arts Centre) received the Silver Medal in the Visitor Information & Services category at the 2013 SA Tourism Awards. This a prestigious honour recognising the high quality customer service provided by the centre to locals and tourists alike.
Friendly volunteers and staff share their passion and local knowledge with visitors while offering the ultimate cultural experience. The Port Pirie Regional Tourism & Arts Centre is an attraction in itself, with railway themed attractions, an art gallery and a shark exhibition on site, public artworks on display, internet access and more.
Judges’ feedback said the Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre was a strong contender in this field due to its passion and dedication to hands-on, face to face service.

2013 SA Tourism Award-Bronze Medal for Excellence in Tourism by Local Government

Bronze Award

Port Pirie Regional Council received the Bronze Medal in the Excellence in Tourism by Local Government category. This recognises Council’s proactive approach to tourism and economic development, setting aside traditional council boundaries to work collaboratively with other councils and tourism authorities in the region.
Port Pirie Regional Council provide both financial and in-kind support to tourism through representation on various tourism boards and committees, representing the region at consumer shows (e.g. the Adelaide Caravan & Camping Show), producing regional marketing material and hosting the only accredited visitor information centre in the Southern Flinders Ranges.
