Children, Schools and Road Safety
The safety of children is a shared responsibility. Parking restrictions around schools are designed to protect students, improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians, and promote the safe and efficient movement of traffic during busy drop-off and pick-up periods.
While Council is not responsible for providing parking around schools, it plays an important role in managing the limited on-street parking available and ensuring compliance with parking regulations.
All motorists can contribute to a safer school environment by following parking restrictions, observing traffic controls, and exercising caution when driving near schools. Unsafe or illegal parking can create significant hazards, reduce visibility, contribute to congestion, and increase the risk of accidents involving children.
⚠️ Parking restrictions are in place to help keep children safe, improve visibility, and reduce congestion around school entrances.
We encourage all parents, caregivers, and visitors to:
- Check and follow all parking signs and line markings.
- Park legally and safely when dropping off or collecting children.
- Avoid stopping in restricted areas, including school crossings, bus zones, and no-stopping zones.
- Be mindful of pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
- Allow extra time during peak school periods to reduce stress and unsafe parking decisions.
Please remember that even a moment of inattention can have serious consequences.
Council Monitoring and Enforcement
Council Compliance Officers regularly patrol school zones to promote safe parking practices and ensure compliance with relevant road and parking legislation.
Where parking restrictions are breached, expiation notices may be issued. Enforcement activities are undertaken with the primary goal of improving safety for children, school staff, parents, and the broader community.
