The Terrace - Water Sensitive Urban Design
A total of 6297 plants and 90 trees are being planted along a portion of The Terrace (in the Pirie West area) to enhance tree planting, landscaping and canopy cover through the Port Pirie Greening Program.
These plantings will be supported by Water Sensitive Urban Design Infrastructure, which will increase stormwater use for irrigation across Port Pirie's inner main streets, with the benefit of reducing dust.
WSUD measures and technologies range from the storage, treatment and use of runoff to water-efficient landscaping. WSUD can help communities achieve greater water sustainability and become more pleasant places to live and work.
The works will focus on the following areas:
- The Terrace: Port Pirie West Primary School / Pirie West Oval Carpark
- The Terrace / Memorial Drive Intersection
- Memorial Drive
- The Terrace: Alexander Street to Memorial Drive + Mary-Elie Street to Grey Terrace.
Port Pirie Regional Council has used this opportunity to upgrade surrounding infrastructure. Other works in the area include:
- The Pirie West Oval car park
- Relocation of the Pirie West bus stop
- Works on The Terrace/Memorial Drive roundabout
- Pedestrian crossings adjacent to Port Pirie West Primary Schoo
- Road resurfacing.
