Water Sensitive Urban Design Infrastructure

Greening Port Pirie has multiple benefits to society and the environment, not least of which is making external spaces more usable year around.

As part of the Greening Port Pirie Program, Water Sensitive Urban Design Infrastructure in key locations will help to increase tree planting and landscaping, increase canopy cover and increase stormwater use for irrigation across Port Pirie's inner main streets, with benefit of reducing dust.

WSUD measures and technologies range from the storage, treatment and use of runoff to water-efficient landscaping. WSUD can help communities achieve greater water sustainability and become more pleasant places to live and work.

The following areas have been identified as key locations for Water Sensitive Urban Design infrastructure and associated upgrades:

  • The Terrace: Port Pirie West Primary School / Pirie West Oval Carpark
  • The Terrace / Memorial Drive Intersection
  • Memorial Drive
  • The Terrace: Alexander Street to Memorial Drive + Mary-Elie Street to Grey Terrace.
