Bus Shelter Upgrades for Port Pirie

Published 7th March 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council is upgrading several stops on the Bus Route around Port Pirie. Some of the works include new footpaths, new shelters, increased kerb ramps, installation of tactile guide surface indicators, larger concrete pads and improved accessibility.

Works commenced this week and are expected to take around 4-5 weeks to complete.

During this time, there will be plant and equipment activity in the area and this may have an impact on bus users, general traffic movements as well as parking. Port Pirie Regional Council has notified nearby residents of the works and will endeavour to minimise inconvenience during this period.

The following Bus Stops are included in the current upgrades:

  • #32 – Balmoral Road (shelter)
  • #35 – Boystown (shelter)
  • #23 – Senate and Kingston Road
  • #11 – Three Chain Road
  • #28 – Hannan Street (shelter)
  • #27 – Hannan and Creasy Street (shelter)
  • #44 – RSL The Terrace (shelter)
  • #47 – Hospital (shelter)

Each stop requires improvements to become more accessible, with varying requirements. The stops that were most frequently used, in areas of persons with higher dependency on the bus routes were considered and those with most use are the ones that have been prioritised.

While the upgrade works take place, bus users are advised that bus services will continue the same route, with times and services remaining the same.

Access to bus stops/shelters may be restricted when works are taking place, however bus users are asked to wait in the vicinity of the stop, where accessible. Signal the bus to stop as per normal process and the drivers will pick up as close to the stop as possible, taking into account accessibility and safety.

We look forward to more accessible bus stops and shelters and a better experience for bus users in our region as a result of these upgrades.
