Celebrating World Wetlands Day in Port Pirie
Together with our friends at the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board, Council is hosting a fun and interactive community event to celebrate World Wetlands Day on Friday 24 February at the Phoenix Park Wetlands in Port Pirie.
This Free event will include a sausage sizzle as well as a range of activities featuring bugs, frogs and birds and is a great opportunity to learn more about the unique ecosystem of our wetlands.
The community is invited to join us from 6pm - 8.30pm to enjoy a fun and educational evening for the whole family.
Activities will include:
- An interpretive stall with fun activities such as badge making, colouring and animal matching;
- Wetland bird watching and identification;
- Listen out for local frogs using the free Frog Spotter app and join in the frog scavenger hunt; and
- Water bugs ‘macroinvertebrates’ activities.
Access to the Phoenix Park Wetlands is via the driveway located next to the Port Pirie Tennis Centre on The Terrace.
This event will also provide an opportunity for people to find out more about the improvements planned for the Phoenix Park Wetlands through the Port Pirie Greening Program, including $2.2 million to plant new trees, increase understory planting and improve water infrastructure.
