Community Engagement - Disability Access & Inclusion Plan
Port Pirie Regional Council will be preparing a Disability Access & Inclusion Plan and is inviting people with disability, their carers and the wider community to have their say.
The Disability Access & Inclusion Plan (DAIP) is a State Government requirement under the Disability Inclusion Act as well as a long overdue opportunity for Council to actively seek input from the community to better identify their challenges when accessing council services. Once the DAIP is developed, Council can take steps to ensure that the issues raised during the community engagement period are included in future planning. The DAIP willbenefit many people in the community including people with disability, the elderly, young parents and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
An online survey is available until 5pm Friday 4 September 2020 and can be accessed at the council website https://www.pirie.sa.gov.au/noticeboard/consultation
An online meeting will be held on Friday 28 August at 10:00am. If you wish to participate, please contact Council on 8633 9743 so that the online meeting invitation can be forwarded to you.
Mayor Leon Stephens said Council is committed to planning and delivery outcomes that ensure people with disabilities have better access to council services and activities.
“We want to ensure that all people in our community are given the opportunity to live their life to the full in our district,” Mayor Stephens said.
“This is Council’s first Disability Access & Inclusion Plan and we recognise that there are potentially many improvements that could be done. It is essential that facilities and events are accessible and that our programs are inclusive at every opportunity.”
An estimated 2% of people or about 340 people in this region rely on some form of accessibility and inclusive support. This is expected to double by 2023 with the expansion of NDIS rollout.
