Community Invited to Shape the Future of Crystal Brook’s Adelaide Square
Adelaide Square has long been the heart of Crystal Brook — a place where locals gather, visitors pause, and community events come to life. Now, Port Pirie Regional Council is inviting the community to help shape its future.
Council has released a Concept Plan for Adelaide Square, aimed at transforming the space into a safer, greener and more connected community hub that better serves both everyday use and larger events.
A Connected and Welcoming Community Space
While Adelaide Square plays an important role in the town, the current layout limits its connection to the main street. The proposed concept seeks to open up the space, strengthen links to the town centre, and enhance its natural beauty.
The vision is to create a flexible and functional destination — a place that feels integrated with the main street, while remaining a relaxing green space for the community.
Key elements of the concept include:
- Improved connections to the main street and civic areas
- Safer pedestrian access with upgraded paths and crossings
- A shared, low-speed one-way road to support safer movement
- More organised parking, including accessible spaces
- A new central lawn and enhanced landscaping
- Upgrades to the rotunda and memorial areas
- New seating, shelter and lighting
- Flexible open spaces for markets, events and community activities
The design also focuses on slower traffic and easier access for all, including buses and caravans, ensuring Adelaide Square remains welcoming and accessible to everyone.
Council notes that these are preliminary concept plans only, and that any future implementation will be subject to funding availability and budget allocations.
