Construction of New Beach Shelter & Deck Set to Begin
Port Pirie Regional Council is pleased to announce the commencement of construction for the replacement beach shelter and deck at Solomontown Beach, as part of the Port Pirie Riverbank Precinct Master Plan – Stage 1 works.
Starting on Wednesday 26 March, contractors will fence off the site of the new deck, restricting access to a portion of the beach and older playground.
The initial phase will involve minor demolition works and surveying to prepare the site for the deck construction. Importantly, access to the jetty will remain unaffected during this period. The fencing will stay in place for the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
The new beach shelter and deck will provide a contemporary, shaded space for residents and visitors to enjoy the beautiful coastal environment and will provide more opportunities for social gatherings, relaxation and community events.
The deck has been designed for accessibility, including disability access to the existing wooden jetty. It will also feature fixed tables and seating, and a new shower will be installed nearby for beach users.
The Riverbank Precinct upgrade project is aimed at enhancing recreational facilities and is a significant investment into our community's future, providing better amenities and a more enjoyable experience for everyone who visits Solomontown Beach.
Priorities for Stage 1 of the Riverbank Precinct Master Plan were determined through a community consultation process where the community was invited to share ideas and provide feedback on the concept plans. The project has been jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and Port Pirie Regional Council.
