Consultation Open on Council's Community Engagement Policy

Published 29th June 2026

Port Pirie Regional Council is joining with other councils across South Australia to establish a consistent, mandatory framework for how councils engage with their communities on decisions and policy matters.

Public consultation is now open on Port Pirie Regional Council’s Community Engagement Policy and a new Community Engagement Charter.

The South Australian Government’s Office of Local Government released the Community Engagement Charter in December 2025 with the aim of ensuring more consistent, transparent and meaningful community engagement across all councils.

As a result, all South Australian councils will adapt their Community Engagement Policy to align with the Charter and release these documents for public consultation.

The Charter has established five categories of engagement based on the differing levels of impact on communities, ranging from Significant through to Inform.
