Council & John Pirie Heritage Project
Local history and heritage will come to the fore in an exciting new collaboration between Port Pirie Regional Council and John Pirie Secondary School.
The stories and history of Port Pirie and surrounding areas will be celebrated through the development of an integrated heritage trail using QR codes as the conduit to digital storytelling.
The school will engage community organisations including the RSL and local history groups to develop stories for the trail and there will be opportunities to link the proposed projects and stories with an existing heritage trail in the Port Pirie CBD.
Council also supported in principle a proposal from John Pirie Secondary School to relocate the John Pirie Anchor to a location in front of the school. This would provide students with a sense of identity and connection with the story of the John Pirie. The John Pirie Anchor would then be included on the Heritage Trail.
Further work will be conducted to determine designs, timing and costs for relocation of the Anchor and the development of concepts for QR codes and bollard markers for the Heritage Trail with a report presented back to Council for a final decision.
