Council facilities to become more accessible

Port Pirie Regional Council is planning an estimated $1.5 million of works before the end of 2022 to make Council’s buildings and facilities more accessible. This includes funding worth $759, 250 through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.

Council conducted a review of its public amenities, buildings and bus stops in line with its Disability Access & Inclusion Plan. Community feedback indicated that many public facilities, including council buildings and bus stops, need to be addressed so they can be used by everyone in the community including those living with a disability.

As a result of this review, Council is proposing the following improvements:

  • The top 10 bus stops across the Council region will be replaced and enhanced with accessible features.
  • Electronic doors for the Crystal Brook Library and Port Pirie Senior Citizens Centre.
  • Access ramps for the Redhill and Koolunga Institutes and the Mundoora Soldiers Memorial.
  • Improvements to public toilet facilities at Woodward Park, Memorial Park, Lawrie Park (Nelshaby), Mortimer Park (Redhill) and Koolunga Institute (Koolunga).
  • Improvements to the Crystal Brook Swimming Pool including upgrades to plumbing, fixtures and floor coverings in the change rooms.

Council will plan and design these projects in the first half of 2022, with works conducted in the second half of 2022 (first half of the 2022/23 financial year).
