Council Recognises Local Clubs for Being Good Sports
Port Pirie Regional Council is pleased to recognise the positive progress made by local sporting clubs participating in the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program, demonstrating a strong commitment to creating healthier, safer and more inclusive club environments across the region.
During April 2026, four clubs within the Port Pirie region have achieved Good Sports Gold accreditation, the highest level of recognition within the program:
- Port Pirie Squash Club
- Port Netball Club
- Wandearah Tennis Club
- Port Pirie Full Impact ITF Taekwon-Do
The Port Pirie Harness Racing club also achieved Gold accreditation in February.
Council congratulates these clubs on reaching Gold status, which reflects their sustained efforts to promote positive behaviours, wellbeing and strong community values within their organisations.
In addition, Proprietary Risdon Football Club has recently joined the Good Sports program, further strengthening the growing network of local clubs committed to fostering safe and welcoming environments for members, families and supporters.
The Savoy Soccer Club was also shortlisted for the 2025 Good Sports State Volunteer of the Year award.
Across the Port Pirie Regional Council area, a total of 49 local sporting clubs are now participating in the Good Sports program, and Council acknowledges the significant work undertaken by volunteers, committee members and participants to achieve this outcome.
“Community sports clubs can sometimes be places where alcohol and drug-related harms occur, but Good Sports proves they can also be a powerful force for positive change, shaping healthier behaviours and stronger communities,” said the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s South Australia State Manager, Sally Underdown.
Port Pirie Regional Council is proud to support initiatives that enhance community wellbeing and applauds local sporting clubs for their leadership and dedication.
Council looks forward to continuing to encourage participation in programs such as Good Sports and celebrating future milestones achieved by clubs across the region.
