End of an Era for Council's Dianne Crocker
After 54 years of employment with Council, we farewelled Dianne Crocker and congratulated her on her retirement this week.
What a remarkable effort to remain with the same employer for such a long period of time and be part of the evolution of the Council for over half a century.
Dianne has seen the introduction of computerisation at Council and the implementation of many Strategic and Community Plans and throughout her time at Council has been engaged in that change.
Dianne was initially employed with the Corporation of Port Pirie in 1968, she has seen two amalgamations with District Council of Pirie, the second in July 1996, forming Port Pirie City & District Council, the further amalgamation with Crystal Brook & Redhill Council in March 1997 that formed the Port Pirie City & Districts Council that later was renamed Port Pirie Regional Council.
Dianne has made a huge contribution to Council over her time and has undertaken many roles and worked within most departments. Dianne commenced as a Receptionist in August 1968, she became the Secretary to the Town Clerk in 1976. In 1978 Dianne transferred to a cashier role and in 1988 as a Stenographer. In 1990 she transferred to the Engineering Department reporting to the Works Managers as a Clerical Officer, three years later transferring back to Administration as an Administration Officer and ultimately as a Records Officer. Dianne also took a temporary placement as a Tourism Officer in 1997.
When asked of her fondest memory while working at Council, Dianne remembers helping as a committee member to plan a New Years Eve event held in the mid-1970’s which saw Ellen Street closed off for a massive street party. There were huge crowds of people with a variety of stalls and entertainment – even the Little River Band performed as the headline musical act.
“People would move from hotel to hotel and the atmosphere was fantastic, it was a great night,” Dianne reminisces.
In her retirement, Dianne plans to travel, including annual Tamworth Music Festivals and New Zealand as well as continuing her volunteer community work and catching up with friends and family.
We thank Dianne for her diligence and loyalty to Council over the past 54 years and wish her the very best in her future endeavours.
