Exciting Upgrades for Woodward Park

Published 4th May 2022

Woodward Park is a large, safe, fully fenced community park that is well maintained by Council and valued by the community and is now ready for some improvements. Improving the infrastructure and adding new activities for young children will re-energise the space and add to the attraction for local families and visiting families to use the space.

As part of a unique collaboration between Uniting Country SA, Port Pirie Community Kindergarten and Port Pirie Regional Council, Wellbeing SA (through their SA Healthy Towns Challenge) have kindly funded the upgrade of Woodward Park in Port Pirie.

The proposed upgrades will encourage young children to enjoy outdoor physical activity through the development of a nature play area co-designed with local children, parents, and carers.

Proposed new facilities will include:

  • A bike track for young children
  • Half-court basketball facility
  • Nature play space and
  • Upgraded toilet facilities.

The estimated project budget is $340,000 (comprising $250,000 grant funding from Wellbeing SA together with $90,000 from Council). Works are planned to be carried out over two financial years, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.

Further information about the project, including a fact sheet and maps/diagrams, is available on Council’s website: www.pirie.sa.gov.au/noticeboard/consultation/woodward-park-upgrade
