Have Your Say on the Greening Port Pirie Landscaping Concept Design

Published 10th January 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council is collaboratively working with SA Water and the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) to deliver the next exciting phase of the Greening Port Pirie Program.

This project has been made possible with $4.2 million funding from the Government of South Australia for Council’s component of the works.

A major part of the Greening Port Pirie Program will be to landscape some of the key areas in our community to reduce lead dust and improve our community’s health and wellbeing.

These landscaping projects will also help to improve the visual appearance and presentation of our city, making Port Pirie’s public spaces more inviting and accessible for all.

The environmental benefits of these projects will help to ensure the long-term climate resilience of Port Pirie through water sensitive urban design (WSUD), land rehabilitation, ground-level landscaping, increasing tree canopy cover by 30 – 40% for each project and increasing biodiversity to various areas.

The key landscaping projects under the Greening Port Pirie Program will include major improvements at the following locations:

  • Phoenix Park Wetlands
  • The Terrace: Port Pirie West Primary School / Pirie West Oval Carpark
  • The Terrace / Memorial Drive Intersection
  • Memorial Drive
  • The Terrace: Alexander Street to Memorial Drive + Mary-Elie Street to Grey Terrace
