Help Choose Design of Beach Basketball Court

Published 16th June 2026

Port Pirie Regional Council is inviting local young people, schools, sporting clubs, youth organisations and the wider community to help choose the final design for the Solomontown Beach half-court basketball space.

Public voting is now open for the next stage of the "Shape This Court Your Way" project, with three exciting artwork concepts developed directly from ideas shared by local young people and community members.

Over the past few months, students, families and residents have participated in workshops, school activities and community engagement sessions, contributing drawings, colour palettes, stories and creative ideas about what the court should look and feel like. Their feedback has inspired three distinct concepts that celebrate the energy, creativity and identity of Port Pirie.

Port Pirie Regional Council Gallery and Cultural Arts Coordinator, Ursula Halpin, said the project has always been about creating a public space that reflects the voices of the people who use it.

"Our young people have been at the heart of this project. They have shared fantastic ideas about colour, movement, local identity and the kind of space they want to spend time in. Now we're inviting everyone — students, families, clubs and the broader community — to help choose the final design and shape a court that truly belongs to Port Pirie," said Ms Halpin.

The revitalised basketball court, located at Solomontown Beach alongside the skatepark, will become a vibrant community space designed to encourage recreation, creativity and connection.

Community members are encouraged to visit the online consultation page, view the three concept designs and complete a short survey. The feedback received will help identify the preferred design and inform the final artwork before installation.
