Port Pirie Regional Council hosted a Council Meeting with a difference on Wednesday.

It was a group of younger faces that filled the Council Chambers as Council hosted a Kids Council Meeting as part of the KIDtober celebrations.

Mayor Leon Stephens took 22 students from St Mark's College, Mid North Christian College, Crystal Brook Primary School and Risdon Park Primary School through a mock Council meeting to introduce some of our younger community members to local government.

Kaden from Crystal Brook Primary School was voted in by her peers as Mayor for the meeting while students from St Mark’s College and Risdon Park Primary School filled the role of Council’s department directors.

Issues discussed included local sporting facilities, proposed additions to Port Pirie’s foreshore and potential improvements to the community.

Mayor Leon Stephens expressed how important young people are to the future of our region.

“Council is proud to host the Kids Council Meeting as part of KIDtober and we look forward to taking more opportunities to connect with young people in our community,” he said.
