Koolunga Communication Tower
Koolunga residents and businesses will experience significant improvements to mobile phone connectivity thanks to a collaborative project between Port Pirie Regional Council and the Telstra Corporation.
A new Small Cell communication tower has been installed in Koolunga. Local residents and businesses are now able to receive mobile coverage of up to a 2km radius of the Telstra exchange site for the Telstra 4GX network. While the new infrastructure may not provide coverage to the outer areas of Koolunga, it provides a much needed and more reliable solution for the township.
The project has been funded through co-investment between Council via a Federal Government Drought Communities Programme grant and the Telstra Corporation.
Council is pleased to be involved in the provision of this new infrastructure that will aid in the community’s sustainability for many years to come.
Telstra’s Regional General Manager for SA Mark Bolton said the tower was important considering that we are all using more data than ever on our mobile devices.
“Having mobile and data connectivity plays a major role in connecting friends and families, businesses and essential services across Australia,” he said.
“Telstra is pleased to have partnered with the Port Pirie Regional Council to deliver new or improved 4G coverage and capacity to the Koolunga area.”
Telstra’s regional team will visit Koolunga next Monday, 17th August, to talk to the community about maximising coverage and answering any questions. The team will be in Sixth Street (in front of the Koolunga Institute) from 10am to 1pm.
