Manggan Exhibition Educates and Inspires
The Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery is shaping the hearts and minds of students and educators alike through its current exhibition.
Manggan – gather, gathers, gathering is a travelling exhibition in partnership between Girringun Aboriginal Corporation from Cardwell in far north Queensland and the South Australian Museum, toured by Museums & Galleries Queensland. This exhibition features contemporary artworks by 19 artists from the Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre, together with selected cultural objects drawn from the South Australian Museum collection gathered from the Girringun region.
This exhibition is providing amazing professional development opportunities to those responsible for teaching our young artists of the future. The Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery supported the Art Gallery of South Australia’s Education team to host creative educator sessions open to primary and secondary school teachers and school services officers.
The National Indigenous Australians Agency APY Lands and Northern Region team travelled from Port Augusta last week for a guided tour of the exhibition.
Daily guided tours are available to members of the public and to schools, with several local schools taking the opportunity to experience this exhibition up close.
This is one example of the amazing A Class touring exhibitions the Art Gallery is now able to host again with the installation of new air conditioning late last year returning the gallery to its former A Class status.
Manggan – gather, gathers, gathering is on display until 15 March 2020. To book a guided tour contact Council’s Gallery & Cultural Arts Coordinator Ursula Halpin onuhalpin@pirie.sa.gov.au
