Mason Hocking Named Winner of 2025 Outstanding Achievement Award

Published 9th December 2025

Port Pirie Regional Council is proud to announce Mason Hocking as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Achievement Award, recognising his exceptional academic performance and leadership.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognise excellence in the young people of our region, highlighting dedication, hard work, talent and achievements in their chosen passions.

At just 16 years old, Mason, a Year 11 student at St Mark’s College, has demonstrated remarkable dedication to his studies and aspirations. His commitment to excellence saw him selected as one of only 20 students nationwide – and the sole representative from South Australia – for a prestigious work experience placement at the Australian Federal Police Forensics facility in Canberra.

Mason’s achievements extend beyond academics. He is highly respected by peers and staff alike, having received the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award and serving as a Year 11 Student Leader for 2025, where his inclusive approach and strong interpersonal skills have positively influenced the school community.

Mason aspires to pursue a career in Forensic Science, and his accomplishments reflect both his ambition and his commitment to making a difference.

Mayor Leon Stephens said:

"I would like to extend my congratulations to Mason – his achievements are a shining example of the talent and determination in our region. We are proud to celebrate his success and the inspiration he brings to other young people in Port Pirie."

Mason will be presented with his award at the Port Pirie New Year’s Eve celebrations to be held at the Port Pirie Foreshore on Wednesday 31 December 2025.
