Mayor Tribute to Greg Mayfield
Mayor Leon Stephens, on behalf of the Elected Members and staff of Port Pirie Regional Council, expresses his great sadness at the passing of respected local journalist Greg Mayfield.
Mayor Stephens paid tribute to Greg’s incredible service to the community through a journalism career spanning 50 years, most notably as journalist and editor of The Recorder newspaper.
“Local newspapers connect communities and Greg reported on matters without fear or favour to ensure everyone in our community was represented and had their voice heard,” Mayor Stephens said.
“Greg had a long working relationship with Port Pirie Regional Council and we appreciated his tenacity, work ethic, integrity and empathy. He was committed to reporting the facts and has given so much to the local media landscape and the broader community.
“On behalf of our Elected Members and staff, I express my sincere condolences to Greg’s family at this sad time.”
