Meet the Candidates Forum

Following the release of Port Pirie Regional Council’s State Election Platform, Council is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” session on Monday 16 August.

This session will be held from 6.00pm-7.30pm at the Port Pirie Sports Precinct Function Centre, Memorial Oval, Port Pirie.

Invitations have been extended to all the nominated candidates for the Stuart electorate and to business, industry, community, sporting groups and other key stakeholders. This event is invitation only but will be livestreamed to the public.

Channel 7’s Mike Smithson will be the MC for the event.

Candidates will be given 5-7 minutes to highlight key issues for them in the election, then Mike Smithson will pose questions to the candidates from matters raised in the Election Platform. This will be followed by questions from the floor.

Mayor Leon Stephens said:

“Council recognises the importance of ensuring that local candidates and political parties, in the lead up to the March 2022 State Election, are informed about the issues that are important to the future economic, social and environmental development and management of Port Pirie.

“There is no better way than to have those views expressed by representatives of the key groups across the city being involved.

“We consider this ‘Meet the Candidates’ session to be one way in which we can support our community to express its views on the issues that are important to them in the lead up to the election.”

The “Meet the Candidates” session can be viewed from 6.00pm Monday 16 August via the Port Pirie Regional Council Facebook page.
