Mosquito Management at Memorial Park

Published 2nd December 2025

Port Pirie Regional Council advises the community that, as part of the Mosquito Control Program and in preparation for the upcoming Festival of Christmas and holiday season, a fogging treatment will take place in Memorial Park during the night of Wednesday 3 December 2025.

Council is committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone attending the Port Pirie Festival of Christmas and other holiday activities. This fogging treatment is a precautionary measure carried out by trained professionals. We appreciate the community’s cooperation in keeping a safe distance while the operation is in progress.

What residents can expect

  • Timing: The treatment will occur overnight on 3 December 2025. Exact start and finish times will be determined by operational and weather conditions.
  • Activity on site: Trained contractors will operate fogging machines and support vehicles with staff working in and around the park during night-time hours.
  • Safety: The fogging product is safe for humans when applied as directed. For added caution, we ask that members of the public keep their distance from the treatment area while operations are underway.

Why this is important

Reducing mosquito numbers helps protect public health and improves comfort for residents and visitors during outdoor events. This targeted treatment is one element of Council’s broader Mosquito Control Program, which includes monitoring, habitat management and community education. Please refer to Council’s Mosquito Control Plan for further details.
