New Art Exhibition by Louise Flaherty Celebrates Plant Carers

Published 1st February 2024

Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery is delighted to present a new exhibition which will be open to the public from this Saturday, 3 February 2024.

Louise Flaherty: Plant Carers is showcased in the Flinders Gallery until Sunday 7 April 2024 and is open during the Gallery’s opening hours (9am-5pm Monday to Friday; 10am-2pm Weekends & Public Holidays, except Good Friday).

Plant Carers is an installation of drawings by Louise Flaherty together with music created by Belinda Gehlert in response to research and practical responses into South Australia’s native flora.

This exhibition captures the intimate relationship that exists between carer and plant and the community of people that is built around this.

Flaherty is inspired and motivated by all the work done by the range of people who work and volunteer in plant conservation and research. Through this work, she hopes to highlight, celebrate and honour the important work that these dedicated people do to ensure the lasting legacy for our native plants.

Flaherty celebrates this community of Plants Carers in South Australia including the wider community of folk not represented in this exhibition.

Plant Carers has been supported by Arts South Australia.

This exhibition was first presented at Post Office Projects, Adelaide.

Please keep an eye out for upcoming workshops as part of this exciting exhibition, which will be promoted through the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery’s social media pages.
