New Community Bus Service: Crystal Brook to Port Pirie

Published 29th October 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council in partnership with the Crystal Brook Community Association will provide a valuable return bus service for residents in Crystal Brook and surrounding areas.

A limited bus service from Crystal Brook to Port Pirie return will specifically cater for transport disadvantaged and older residents living in the Port Pirie Regional Council area. This is a free service for residents operated by volunteer drivers.

The service will operate on Tuesdays and selected Fridays. Residents will be picked up from their home or a designated address within the township of Crystal Brook from 9.30am. Drop off points in Port Pirie will be the Prime West Shopping Centre (Kmart entrance) and the Port Pirie Visitor Information Centre (Mary Elie Street).

Return pick-up will occur at 2.30pm from the same locations.

Due to the style of the bus, we are not able to accommodate wheelchairs or child booster/restraints but do have capacity for two walking frames. Users of the service need to be able to navigate access on and off the bus themselves without assistance.

The Crystal Brook to Port Pirie bus service will have an initial run on Friday 8 November. Regular services will commence on Tuesday 26 November.

Bookings can be made at the Crystal Brook Library and Council Office in Bowman Street or by phoning 8636 2150.

Port Pirie Regional Council is committed to creating a connected, active community with access and opportunities to participate in community life available to all. The service also supports Council’s aims to foster community contribution and personal wellbeing through volunteering opportunities.

Council would like to sincerely thank the Crystal Brook Community Association and our volunteer drivers Geoff and Karina for their generosity and support to bring the vision of a return Crystal Brook to Port Pirie bus service to life.
