New Years Eve Closures & Restrictions
- Media Releases
Council has been fortunate to host the Port Pirie New Years Eve celebrations against the spectacular backdrop of the Port Pirie Foreshore, Solomontown Beach and Pirie River for the past three years.
But it is important for the community to take note of the temporary road closures and water traffic restrictions in place to ensure the evening is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
For safety reasons, vessels and persons other than those participating in the event are prohibited from entering the Pririe River for 400 metres both east and west of the John Pirie Bridge between 9.00pm-10.00pm Tuesday 31 December and again from 11.30pm-12.30am Wednesday 1 January.
Other closures/restrictions include:
- Main Road, Port Pirie will be closed between Three Chain Road and SD Caputos from 5.00pm Tuesday 31 December until 1.00am Wednesday 1 January.
- John Pirie Bridge will be CLOSED from 8.00am Tuesday 31 December until 2.00am Wednesday 1 January.
- NO boats may launch or retrieve at the Solomontown Boat Ramp from 12.00pm Tuesday 31 December until 2.00am Wednesday 1 January.
- NO boats can be launched or in the water (excluding long term moored boats) within 400 metres of the John Pirie Bridge between 8.45pm-10.15pm and 11.15pm-12.45am.
These restrictions have been implemented for safety reasons due to the fireworks being launched from the John Pirie Bridge at 9.30pm and midnight.
Port Pirie SES will be monitoring the water during specified periods to ensure no boats or people are in the water.
A drop-off zone and special access parking will be available in front of SD Caputos, Main Road, Port Pirie. There will also be a taxi rank set up on Beach Road, Port Pirie.
