Notice of Partial Closure of Oil Berth Jetty and Restricted Access to Fisherman’s Wharf

Published 7th January 2025

Port Pirie Regional Council wishes to advise the community that the Oil Berth Jetty (Berth 3) located behind Flinders View Park in Port Pirie will be partially closed to restrict public access this month.

It has been brought to Councils attention that components of the jetty pose a significant risk to the community. The partial closure will allow Council to evaluate the true condition of the jetty and consider future works.

The closure applies to the southern section of the jetty (which can be seen in Image 1, below) and the community will still be able to access and use the northern section of the jetty.

In addition, we wish to advise that works are to be carried out this month to restrict vehicle access to Fisherman’s Wharf (Berth 1).

It has come to Council’s attention that undue stress is being put on to the sheet pile wall structure, causing further damage to the asset and posing a risk to users.

Bollards will be installed to prevent vehicles accessing the section shown in Image 2, below. The restricted vehicle access will prolong the life of the asset while still allowing pedestrian access for recreational fishing.

Council would also like to remind users that both areas are only to be used for recreational fishing as well as observing the port and that swimming is prohibited in both areas.

Council appreciates your co-operation with adhering to the new restrictions and closures. For further information, please contact Council on (08) 8633 9666.
