Port Davis Boat Ramp Official Opening

Published 4th June 2024

The refurbishment of the Port Davis Boat Ramp is now complete with the construction of a new two-lane concrete boat ramp with pontoon system, raising and spray seal of the carpark area and installation of several solar lights.

Both the carpark and boat ramp improvements were based on the Guidelines for Planning, Design and Construction of Boat Launching Facilities that are provided by the South Australian Boating Facility Advisory Committee.

These works have been made possible through the SA Boating Facilities Grant Funding who have committed $1,230,059 (ex GST) for the construction of these works. In addition, Council has committed $300,000 (ex GST) towards the construction.

Port Pirie Regional Council is pleased that the project has now been completed, with Mayor Leon Stephens providing the following comments:

“This is a long-awaited opportunity for boat users to launch safely and fish the pristine waters off the Spencer Gulf. I envisage huge growth for this ramp, particularly as Port Pirie develops towards the south-west,” Mayor Stephens said.

To celebrate, an official Opening Ceremony will be held at the Port Davis Boat Ramp on Wednesday 12 June 2024 at 1.00pm. The opening will be conducted by the Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, along with Mayor Leon Stephens and the community is welcome to attend. Free coffee and a light lunch will be available from 12.30pm.

Minister Koutsantonis said, “It’s been great to see this work progress so well and I’m delighted to be able to open this refurbished boat ramp facility, which will improve safety and accessibility for boating and recreational users.”
