Port Pirie Demonstration Gardens

Demonstration garden at Catherine Common Park in Read Street, Port PIrie.
Demonstration gardens have been created at three Port Pirie sites to enhance the objectives of the Port Pirie Greening Program.
The Port Pirie Greening Program is funded by the Government of South Australia as part of a four-year, $5.7 million partnership that aims to minimise lead exposure pathways, beautify the community, and increase biodiversity.
Demonstration gardens have been planted at the following Port Pirie sites:
- SA Water Depot, 238 Senate Road
- Catherine Commons Park, Read Street
- Spencer Estate, Higgins Court
These gardens display a selection of native plants that have been used as part of the greening program. These plants were provided to Port Pirie residents at the Native Plant Giveaway in April 2024, where almost 3000 locally sourced and climate adapted seedlings were given out free of charge.
Signage has been installed at each of the demonstration garden sites and residents are invited to spend time enjoying the gardens and learning about the native plant species beautifying Port Pirie.
Future Native Plant Giveaways are being planned as part of the Port Pirie Greening Program, so watch this space!
