Response to Memorial Park Toilets Concerns

Published 16th September 2021

Port Pirie Regional Council is aware of concerns raised regarding the unavailability of public toilet facilities at Memorial Park during a birthday party last weekend.

The toilets in Memorial Park are incorporated into the Northern Festival Centre but are maintained by Council. These toilets were previously open for general access; however, the decision was made to only open these facilities for booked events due to the extensive vandalism that occurred. These toilets were one of the most vandalised toilet facilities in our region and Council is aware that the constant repairs were a great cost to ratepayers.

The public toilet facilities at Memorial Oval are usually open and freely accessible for residents enjoying a function at Memorial Park. In this instance, there unfortunately were issues presented by the Spencer Gulf League football finals taking place at Memorial Oval. Council sympathises with the birthday party organisers and attendees for the situation and any inconvenience caused.

Port Pirie Regional Council wants to support our community in enjoying our parks and recreation facilities. While there is no requirement to book a public park, we encourage anyone wanting to use Memorial Park for a function to contact us on 8633 9777 so we can discuss the requirements and work out a suitable arrangement.
