Revised Community Assistance Policy

Published 1st November 2021

Port Pirie Regional Council is looking forward to supporting a variety of new local events and contributing to community wellbeing following the release of its revised Community Assistance Policy.

The changes ensure the Community Assistance Policy aligns with Council’s Community Plan 2020-2025 strategies including economic stimulus for local businesses, increased visitor numbers and community and social wellbeing.

The creation of an Event Development Fund aims to attract new and diverse events as an economic driver to stimulate our local businesses. This will help to increase tourism numbers and provide a greater variety of events for the community to enjoy.

Council will provide support to eligible events for in-kind event planning and seed funding for up to three years to give time for the event to grow in size, attract sponsorship and become self-sustainable.

In addition, Council will continue support for community events that contribute to social connection and community wellbeing with multi-year support agreements through the Community Assistance Fund. Funding support for the Council’s Community Development Associations (Crystal Brook, Redhill, Koolunga and Pirie Districts) and currently approved contributions to community and sporting organisations will also continue.

The Community Assistance Fund application timeline has changed from monthly to quarterly to encourage better planning and provide an opportunity for applicants to meet with a representative of Council as part of the application process. The Community Assistance Fund remains available to incorporated community groups with the opportunity to obtain funds for small projects and events which cannot easily be obtained from other sources. Grant funding of up to $4000 is available for financial and/or in-kind assistance per application, per organisation per year.

Information and guidelines on Council’s Community Assistance Program can be found at the website:https://www.pirie.sa.gov.au/document-library/financial-documents/community-assistance-fund or by contacting Port Pirie Regional Council on 8633 8723. Council intends to contact organisations that have received Community Assistance Funds over the past three years to directly advise them of changes.
