Published 16th March 2026

Art, culture and local stories will take centre stage this winter as the SALA Winter Festival returns as part of Port Pirie’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.

Port Pirie Regional Council is pleased to confirm that the 2026 SALA Winter Festival will form part of the city’s sesquicentennial year, delivering a special program inspired by the stories, people and places that have shaped Port Pirie over the past 150 years.

Planning is currently underway to deliver a vibrant program that highlights local artists and creatives while celebrating the city’s heritage. The 2026 festival will feature a distinctive anniversary theme, with exhibitions, installations and creative collaborations designed to showcase Port Pirie’s unique character.

Council will also explore opportunities to partner with arts organisations and funding bodies to further enhance the festival program and expand community engagement.

Deputy Mayor Alan Zubrinich welcomed the announcement and said the festival would be a key highlight of the city’s milestone year.

“It’s wonderful to see the 2026 Port Pirie SALA Winter Festival take shape as part of our celebrations for Port Pirie’s 150th year, or sesquicentennial,” he said.

“This year’s festival will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the stories, creativity and community spirit that have defined Port Pirie across generations.”

“Through art, culture and collaboration, the festival will help bring our community together while celebrating the remarkable journey of our city over the past 150 years.”

Further details about the festival program will be announced as planning progresses.
