Schools winning the War on Waste
Our youngest residents are leading the war against waste!
Council has partnered with KESAB to provide waste education to our schools and communities and it has been fantastic to see our local students so enthusiastic to embrace the concepts of waste reduction and recycling.
Napperby and Crystal Brook Primary Schools nominated to be involved in this year’s Focussed School Support Program. KESAB has been working with these schools to reduce their waste and make sustained changes.
KESAB visited Napperby Primary School last week to present staff with the results of their Bin Materials audit. The school has embraced the challenge to become the best site in the Port Pirie Region.
Staff have committed to discussing the audit report recommendations on their planning day this week and will present to their Student Voice group to help to implement changes.
KESAB also visited Crystal Brook Primary School to conduct their Bin Materials audit and identified issues to tackle including food waste, Ziplock bags and compostable paper. Staff and Student Representative Council members braved the cold to help with the audit and when asked, every student at their school assembly raised their hand and agreed to help the school tackle the war on waste.
KESAB’s Resource Recovery Education Officer Wendy Sutton was thrilled to see the enthusiasm from the school communities.
“There are some super keen kids here,” she said.
“I feel there is real momentum building as our relationship with schools strengthens and they trust the support that Council and KESAB can provide.”
