A partnership between Port Pirie Regional Council and John Pirie Secondary School will see the beautification of a historic local landmark.

Year 8 English students from John Pirie Secondary School have chosen to investigate the replanting of garden beds around the South East Asian War Memorial on Memorial Drive as part of a civic project.

A media opportunity is available next Monday, 28 June, to capture the planting process.

Students have investigated and collaborated with the Port Pirie RSL Sub Branch and the Adelaide Botanical Garden for ideas for the garden using existing plants and additional suggestions.

Plantings to be used which are considered to have a connection to South East Asia and the veterans include Golden Cane Bamboo, Nandina, Westringia (native rosemary), Feather Falls grass and miniature Bird of Paradise.

The planting has been organised in time for Vietnam Veterans Day in August.
