Upcoming Port Davis Boat Ramp Improvements

Published 19th September 2023

Council would like to inform the public that the Port Davis Boat Ramp will commence construction in the last week of September 2023 until late March 2024, subject to favourable environmental conditions.

Key works will include the construction of a new two-lane concrete boat ramp with a pontoon system. The carpark will also be raised and constructed with a spray seal and have several solar lights installed throughout the area.

The current boat ramp is in poor condition and the flat angle of the ramp can make it difficult to launch and retrieve vessels.

Both the carpark and boat ramp improvements have been based on the Guidelines for Planning, Design and Construction of Boat Launching Facilities that are provided by the South Australian Boating Facility Advisory Committee.

Due to the constrained area and nature of works, the contractor will build a dewatering enclosure around the site to enable construction of the new lanes and pontoon. This means there will be no public access available to both the boat ramp and the adjacent jetty during the works. Road closure signs will be installed once the facilities are closed.

The contractor will mobilise to the site this week in preparation for the start of works next week (from Monday 25 September), subject to final EPA Environmental Authorisation licensing approval.

These works have been made possible through the SA Boating Facilities Grant Funding who have committed $1,230,059 (ex GST) for the construction of these works. In addition, Council has committed $300,000 (ex GST) towards the construction.

Council apologises for the interruption to the use of the current facility during these works and appreciates your cooperation during the closure.

We look forward to providing much improved boat launching and car parking facilities to support local fishers and recreational boat users once the project is completed.
