Wandearah Road Rising Main Works

Published 24th August 2023

Council will soon embark on major works to replace the Wandearah Road rising main in Port Pirie.

Over the coming months, deep excavations will be required to install a new pumping main which discharges storm water from the Wandearah Road catchment area (Phoenix Park Wetlands) to the Port Pirie River at Berth 3.

The current pumping main is in poor condition and is undersized based on current stormwater modelling. The aim of the works is to provide better flood protection for the Wandearah Road catchment area by improving the discharge capacity, pumping stormwater runoff stored at the Phoenix Park Wetlands to the Port Pirie River.

The first stage of these works will commence on Monday 21 August 2023, when Council’s contractor will carry out alignment marking, service locations and depth checking. Only minor disruptions to traffic are expected during these initial stages.

The carpark located on the southern side of Flinders View Park will be used to set up a site compound with temporary fencing.

This project will take several months to fully complete, with works due to commence on Wandearah Road near the Library carpark on Monday 4 September 2023 then working through to the wharf area at Berth 3.

Please see map below for further details.

A majority of works will be completed at night to minimise disruption to traffic, with smaller aspects being completed during the day as required. On site work zone traffic management will be in place for the duration of these works and Council will notify the public of any road or lane closures closer to the time.

We thank the community for their cooperation and patience while this project is completed.
