Work Hardening Program to Help Revamp Phoenix Park Wetlands

Published 23rd September 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council is excited to announce that Expressions of Interest for the 2024 Port Pirie Work Hardening Program have been extended to Friday 27 September 2024 at 5.00pm.

Expressions of interest can be submitted via: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YJ2XZLL

This year’s Work Hardening Program will see participants contributing to upgrades at the Phoenix Park Wetlands as part of the Greening Port Pirie Program.

The project will include a new two-way entrance to the Wetlands, re-vegetation throughout with native trees, shrubs and groundcovers, a new lawned area with picnic furniture, better pathways for pedestrians and wayfinding signage. A levee with ground covers and coir logs will also be created to protect against heavy water flows and sediment movement.

Commencing on 14 October 2024, the Work Hardening Program is not limited to individuals registered with an employment service provider, and participants will not be required to pay any costs to participate. Please note places are limited.

While it can be challenging to provide job seekers with real work experience, this program is a great opportunity for participants to gain a qualification and tickets while also working on real projects with Port Pirie Regional Council.

Key program partners include Workskil Australia, Workforce Australia Local Jobs – Mid North, Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North and Carey Training.

Participants from the inaugural 2023 Port Pirie Work Hardening Program found the experience to be highly worthwhile, graduating with a combination of skills, tickets and real-life work experience to support their future career progression, along with real employment outcomes.
