Greening the Region
The Port Pirie Greening Program is funded by the Government of South Australia as part of a four-year, $5.7 million partnership with Port Pirie Regional Council and the Targeted Lead Abatement Program (TLAP) to help green Port Pirie.
The primary aims of the Port Pirie Greening Program are to minimise lead exposure pathways, beautify the community and increase biodiversity. As a significant portion of this program will be delivered by Council, the newly greened areas will provide increased presentation value of our city as well as assisting in our response to climate variation.
The Port Pirie Greening Program will see the following projects delivered by Port Pirie Regional Council:
- Phoenix Park Wetlands redevelopment
- Sealing of footpaths in Solomontown with Water Sensitive Urban Design and tree planting
- Native plant community giveaways
- Water Sensitive Urban Design and streetscaping in the Port Pirie West area.
The Greening Port Pirie Railway Yards Project is being delivered by SA Water.
