Community Consultation Open for Extension of Shared Pathway on Three Chain Road

Published 10th January 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council has been successful in its application to the 2023/24 State Bicycle Fund and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Phase 4B to enable the extension of the shared path network along Three Chain Road from Simpson Road through to Afford Road.

The extension of the shared walking and cycling path will be a 3m wide continuation of the existing pathway network which links to the Port Pirie Riverbank Precinct and will provide additional space for pedestrians and cyclists to utilise.

The project will involve shoulder widening of the road to accommodate the shared path, removal of existing timber bollards and guard railings, base preparation of the new path, asphalting, construction of kerb ramps, line marking and installation of new signage, bollards and refuge rails. Additional shade trees will also be planted adjacent the pathway in some areas.

The sealed shoulder constructed alongside the roadway and the general alignment of the path will typically travel 1.5m off the existing roadway. A semi mountable white rubber kerb, 230mm wide by 125mm high will also be installed along the spray seal shoulder to prevent cars from parking on the shared pathway.

The project is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2024, subject to the availability of a suitable contractor and favourable weather conditions.
