Riverbank Precinct Stage 1 Continues

Published 19th March 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council is excited to continue works on the Port Pirie Riverbank Precinct Master Plan (Stage 1).

This follows the completion of the foreshore pump track and refurbished toilet block late last year. Construction on the other elements of the Master Plan were scheduled for March 2024 to give the community the opportunity to enjoy the beach and foreshore areas during the school holiday and summer period.

Preparation works starts this week on the new concrete promenade path adjacent to the skate park. This will define the area for the construction of the new basketball half court which will begin towards the end of this month.

Other improvements commencing this month include:

  • Installation of picnic shelters and park furniture (one small picnic shelter and the base slab for a second small picnic shelter were completed last year by participants of the Port Pirie Work Hardening Program).
  • Car park and road improvements (including kerb works).

Further upgrades that will be completed as part of the Stage 1 upgrade are:

  • ·        Nature play space – tender submission received and are currently under review.
  • ·        Beach shelter and deck – currently out for tender and closes this week.

Priorities for Stage 1 of the Port Pirie Riverbank Precinct Master Plan were determined through a community consultation process where the community was invited to share ideas and provide feedback on the concept plans.

The project has been jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and Port Pirie Regional Council. The Riverbank Precinct development will have many wellbeing, social, environmental and lifestyle benefits.
