Have Your Say on the Port Pirie Aerodrome Master Plan

Published 7th March 2024

Port Pirie Regional Council has released an updated Port Pirie Aerodrome Master Plan for community consultation today.

The Masterplan plays an important role in providing a framework for maintenance and potential future development of the aerodrome land in the short term and over the next 20 years.

Currently, the Port Pirie Aerodrome consists of a 3-runway layout making it ideal for pilot training and also servicing aero medical, aerial firefighting, charter and private flying.

The Aerodrome includes freight services, medical (RFDS), a refueling facility as well as a Bellman Hangar which Council currently has 9 Licenses to house private planes.

The CFS has also acquired a portion of land for their command centre, which is used for training and bushfire events.

Some of the non-aviation activities include driver and motorcycle training, storage shed (Rotary, YMCA, BH Club), cropping land leased to a local farmer and a weather station from the Bureau of Meteorology.

The Masterplan provides the opportunity to expand the runway which will allow for larger planes to land in Port Pirie, the opportunity to build private hangars, a possible flight training school / accommodation and create residential allotments and a future industrial area.

Council is inviting all residents to provide feedback on the Port Pirie Aerodrome Master Plan during the consultation period by completing an Online Survey on Council’s website: www.pirie.sa.gov.au/noticeboard/consultation.

Paper copies of the Port Pirie Aerodrome Master Plan and Survey are also available at the following locations:

  • Port Pirie Regional Council Administration Centre: 115 Ellen Street, Port Pirie
  • Port Pirie Regional Library: 3 Wandearah Road, Port Pirie
  • Crystal Brook Office: Bowman Street, Crystal Brook

The consultation period closes at 5.00pm on Tuesday 9 April 2024.
